Terms of use & membership
The service
Rike provides online pronunciation and vocabulary practice through listening, sentence repetition, personal recordings and spaced review. It complements general language learning. It is not an accredited qualification, examination preparation service, or a complete programme for grammar, reading and writing. Results depend on your practice and circumstances; we do not guarantee fluency, a particular accent, or examination results.
Your account and permitted use
Provide accurate account and billing information, keep your sign-in details secure, and use only your own account. You must be legally able to enter into the agreement, or use the service with the permission and supervision required by applicable law. Do not upload unlawful content or another person’s voice without permission, disrupt the service, bypass access controls, share paid access, or commercially redistribute course material. You retain rights in your recordings and grant us only the permission needed to store, process and play them for the service and related support.
Free trial
The trial lasts seven days from the first verified sign-in. No payment card is required, and the trial does not automatically convert into a paid subscription. Continued paid practice requires you to choose and purchase a membership. Promotional access may have separate terms shown when offered.
Prices, payment and renewal
Available prices, currencies, billing intervals and any applicable taxes are shown before purchase. A monthly plan is charged monthly; an annual plan is charged for the full year in advance. A displayed monthly equivalent for an annual plan is a comparison, not monthly instalments. Your subscription renews automatically at the agreed interval unless cancelled before the next renewal. Your account and checkout show the applicable subscription terms. Your bank may apply its own exchange rates or fees.
Payments are processed by Airwallex. Paid access is activated after payment confirmation; confirmation can take a short time. The service is delivered online, with no physical shipment. Keep or resume an existing pending checkout rather than paying again. Contact support if a payment appears duplicated or access is not activated.
Service changes and availability
Internet access, a compatible browser and, for speaking practice, microphone permission are required. We provide the service with reasonable care and skill, but maintenance, network issues and third-party outages may interrupt access. We may update lessons and features. Material changes to paid plans or these terms will be communicated in advance where required by law; a price change will not retrospectively change an already-paid period. Any mandatory remedies for materially unavailable or non-conforming services remain available.
Intellectual property, suspension and responsibility
Course material, branding and software belong to us or our licensors. Membership grants personal, non-transferable access during the applicable access period. We may restrict access for unlawful use, serious abuse, security risks or non-payment, with notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue where appropriate. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including applicable consumer guarantees or liability for fraud.
Applicable law
These terms are governed by Hong Kong law. This choice does not deprive consumers of mandatory protections or rights to bring proceedings in their country of residence where applicable. If a provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
Cancellation, withdrawal & refunds
Cancel future renewals
Use Account → Cancel renewal before the next renewal. Access ordinarily continues until the end of the paid period, and no further renewal charge is taken after cancellation takes effect. Signing out, deleting the app shortcut, or stopping practice does not cancel a subscription. If you cannot access your account, contact support for help cancelling.
Our contractual refund policy
Except where required by applicable law or expressly agreed by us in writing, subscription payments are non-refundable once the paid billing period has begun. We do not provide automatic refunds or credits for unused days, partial billing periods, lack of use, a change of mind outside any statutory withdrawal period, or cancellation after a renewal has occurred. Cancellation stops future renewals; it does not by itself refund a charge already made.
We may make discretionary goodwill exceptions after reviewing the circumstances. A goodwill refund in one case does not create an entitlement to a refund in another case or waive this policy. This discretion never replaces, restricts or conditions a refund or other remedy required by law.
Your mandatory rights take priority
This policy does not exclude applicable statutory withdrawal rights, consumer guarantees, remedies for defective or misdescribed services, incorrect or duplicate charges, or other non-excludable rights. Where a statutory withdrawal period applies, you may withdraw within that period by sending a clear statement identifying your account and purchase. For EU/EEA consumers, a 14-day withdrawal right generally applies to online service contracts, subject to the relevant legal conditions and exceptions. Starting a trial, using the app or accepting these terms does not by itself constitute an express waiver of a statutory withdrawal right.
To request a refund or exercise a withdrawal right, contact us using the details above or send a refund / withdrawal request. Include your account email, payment date and purchase reference if available. You do not need to provide a reason when exercising a no-reason statutory withdrawal right. Never send full card details or your password. Where a refund is due, we normally return it to the original payment method, without prejudice to any legal deadline; bank processing times can vary.
Privacy notice
What we collect and why
We process your account email, verification and sign-in information, password hash, language preferences, trial and membership status, learning progress, practice activity, personal recordings you choose to make, and support reports. Technical connection and security information, such as IP addresses, browser/device information and request logs, may also be processed by our hosting provider to deliver and protect the service. Optional support names and reply addresses are used to follow up on the relevant report. Providing a support name or alternative reply email is voluntary; leaving these blank does not prevent reporting. Account and practice data are needed to provide the corresponding features.
We use this information to provide and secure your account, deliver practice and saved recordings, schedule reviews, manage subscriptions, respond to support requests, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. Where the GDPR applies, the relevant bases are performing our contract with you, legitimate interests in security and support where these do not override your rights, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where specifically required. Browser microphone permission enables recording; you can revoke it in browser settings. We do not use support contact details for marketing.
Who receives information and where it is processed
Authorised personnel can access information needed to operate Rike and address support issues. We use Cloudflare for website hosting, security and private audio storage; Neon for the hosted account and learning database in Singapore; Resend for account verification and password-reset emails; and Airwallex for payment processing. These providers process the information necessary for their functions. Airwallex receives checkout and billing details; Rike stores payment references and subscription status, not your full payment-card number or card security code.
Course example audio may be generated using ElevenLabs. Personal practice recordings are stored privately for playback; pronunciation scoring is currently disabled. We do not send your personal practice recordings to ElevenLabs to generate course examples.
Processing may take place outside Hong Kong and your country of residence. The main hosted database is in Singapore and audio storage is configured for Asia-Pacific; providers may process service, delivery and security information in other locations. Overseas processing is subject to applicable data-protection requirements and safeguards. We may disclose information to professional advisers or authorities when necessary and lawful. We do not sell your personal information.
Retention and security
Account information, progress and saved recordings are retained while needed to provide your account and practice history. Support reports are retained while needed to resolve and document the issue. Billing, security and related records may be retained longer where necessary for legal obligations, fraud prevention or resolving disputes, then deleted or anonymised when no longer needed. We use access controls, authenticated recording access and encrypted connections; no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You can update preferences in Account, download available learning data using Download your learning data, and contact us to request access, correction or deletion of personal information, including recordings. We may need to verify your identity. Applicable law may also provide rights to portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent and complaints to a privacy authority, including Hong Kong’s Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data or your local supervisory authority. Some records may need to be retained for lawful reasons; we will explain applicable limitations when responding.
